Wonder Man Preview Unveils Marvel's Most Self-Referential TV Show To Date

The Marvel studio is aware that audiences might be feeling some superhero exhaustion, so they've decided to incorporate that very concept into their next superhero show.

That's right, the first preview for Wonder Man has been released, and it pledges a meta twist on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The preview, which debuted on Oct. 10, also quietly pushed the Wonder Man launch date back from its initial late 2025 slot into early 2026.

Why another superhero film? People is tired of superhero content. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man spoke to me on a deep level. There is an chance to surprise audiences. To reimagine the whole category of storytelling.

The reporter replies: "Have you considered about the cast?"

The preview then transitions to series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the conversation on his mobile device, and the trailer concludes.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We already knew that Wonder Man would be a self-referential interpretation on the MCU. The series stars Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a super-powered being (the hero Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast features Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as DODC officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Approach

We don't know much else about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's evident that Marvel plans to poke some fun at itself.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the production company is all in on meta-humor. Will this approach succeed without the star power of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? We'll have to wait and see.
